Templeton Religion Trust (TRT) today announced that after twelve years of trusted leadership, Christopher Stewart will be retiring from his position as Chief Grants Officer of TRT at the end of June. During his tenure at Templeton Religion Trust, Dr. Stewart faithfully executed Sir John Templeton’s vision, championing hundreds of strategic grants over more than a decade of leadership. Dr. Stewart was instrumental in the development of key funding strategies including Science and Religion in Context (SRiC), the Covenantal Pluralism Initiative (CPI), the Social Consequences of Religion Initiative (SCORE), and Art Seeking Understanding (ASU).
“On behalf of staff, grantees, partners, and Templeton Religion Trust leadership, I want to express our deep gratitude to Chris for his years of dedication and strategic vision,” says Jeff Dill, Chair of the TRT Steering Committee.
Kimon Sargeant, Vice President of Strategy & Programs, will assume overall leadership of TRT grantmaking beginning in July. Kimon has been with Templeton Religion Trust for three years and brings decades of philanthropic experience to the role, including fifteen years with the John Templeton Foundation.
For current and future applicants and grantees this leadership change should be seamless and will not affect your current points of contact within the Trust. We are here to answer any questions you may have and provide support as we continue with our mission of expanding possibilities for spiritual discovery.
Chris will continue to provide technical advice and assistance to the Trust as a special advisor on strategic matters beyond June.
